Hey everyone! I’m in my thirties, and my gaming time is pretty limited these days. I haven’t played any of the Final Fantasy games since the PS1 era, and I’m a huge fan of Final Fantasy VII. Now, I’m looking to dive into either Final Fantasy VIII or IX Remastered on the PS. Could you share some pros and cons for each to help me decide which to pick up? Thanks!

If you’re leaning towards a retro futuristic vibe with fast-paced combat where characters can do almost anything, then you might want to try Final Fantasy VIII. On the other hand, if a medieval setting with defined character jobs and a more relaxed combat pace sounds better, then Final Fantasy IX is the way to go.
Honestly, both games have their strengths, but I’ve always found myself favoring IX. It feels more cohesive and has a charming story that just pulls you in.
For sure, go with IX! There’s something uniquely odd about certain moments that just stick with you. Like when Freya suggests a name for a castle nobody seems to care about, you can’t help but laugh. VIII has its share of weird story elements too, especially with the time travel aspect, which tends to be more cringe-worthy as an adult. IX is a more solid experience overall.
