I’m debating between two PS3 options: a fully deep cleaned Fat model with new thermal paste or a cheaper Slim model that’s not deep cleaned. I’m mostly focused on reliability here. The Fat might have issues with performance, but given the deep clean and thermal paste, could it be more reliable? What do you guys think?

Go for the PS3 Slim! I got mine in 2010 right after my Xbox 360 fell victim to the red ring of death. The only time mine has frozen was once during a Call of Duty game, but other than that, it’s been rock solid. Plus, I’ve upgraded it with a 1TB SSD and even jailbroken it! The PS3 Slim is definitely more reliable than the Fat, which has a lot of issues like the yellow light of death.
Honestly, if it were me, I’d choose the Fat model just because I think it looks cooler. But I know it has its problems; just wanted to put that out there!
I’d definitely recommend the Slim. It’s known for being more reliable compared to the Fat model, and let’s be honest, the Super Slim just isn’t as stylish. Many backward-compatible Fat units are failing, and cleaning it up doesn’t really fix the underlying issues with the solder joints. My Slim has been running flawlessly since 2010, even after long gaming sessions this past weekend!
Exactly! Mine is still running great too!

True, but wouldn’t you miss out on the backwards compatibility?
