Hey everyone! As a kid, I loved Pokémon, but I’ve missed out on games from Generations 5 to 7. Now that I’m getting back into the series, I’m curious if those games are worth playing. Specifically, I’m thinking about trying out Pokémon X/Y to prep for Legends: Arceus since it’ll give me some background on the region. What other games from Gen 5-7 would you recommend?

If you’re looking for a recommendation, I really liked Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby which are remakes of Gen 3. They improved a lot of mechanics and are really enjoyable!
I’d say Generation 5 has some of the best concepts with Black and White. The second games are also awesome because they take place years later in the same world but feel fresh. Generation 6 is really good too—X/Y are chill games to play, and they introduce a bunch of cool mechanics. Though, I find Gen 7 a bit heavy on the exposition, which can be a drag.
For sure play X/Y before Legends: Arceus! They were my comeback games into Pokémon. But don’t skip out on Black/White—they have a great story and fresh Pokémon designs. If you want to experience typical Pokémon gameplay with gyms, then you’ll probably love X/Y more than Gen 7’s style.
For a quick rundown from these gens, my favorites are Black/White, followed by Sun/Moon, and then X/Y! All of them are worth your time and have great features.
Definitely check out Pokémon Sun and Moon; they have some of the best stories in those generations and are my personal favorites. Don’t forget about Black and White, especially their sequels, Black 2 and White 2—they’re often considered the peak of Pokémon gameplay!
I came here to say Ultra Moon too! It’s just such a fun game!
X/Y got me hooked back into Pokémon, and it was fun exploring the Kalos region! Just go for it; you won’t regret diving into these games!
Yeah, Kalos has such a vibrant feel to it. Can’t wait for you to try it out!
Yeah, I agree, Gen 7 had too much talking! It kinda spoils the replay value for me.
