I used to be obsessed with Pokémon as a kid, playing games like Fire Red, Emerald, and Diamond non-stop. However, I kind of drifted away after Diamond because the new generations felt like a jumbled mix of Pokémon that didn’t catch my interest. I’m feeling a bit more open to exploring the newer Pokémon now, but I’m not sure where to begin. I recently tried HeartGold since many say it’s a favorite, but I found it really slow, and I had to grind a lot, which wasn’t fun for me. Any recommendations?

If you’re looking for a traditional Pokémon experience, I’d say start with Scarlet and Violet. They feel more modern but keep the core gameplay. If you’re up for something a bit different, Legends: Arceus is a fresh take on the series that you might enjoy.
If you want to jump back into Pokémon with a classic feel, you could try the ROM hack based on Fire Red. It gives you that nostalgic vibe but with some twists. Also, consider playing Black 2; I had a blast getting back into Pokémon with it, especially if you want something a little more contemporary without going too far from what you loved.
I think Pokémon X and Y could be great for you! They welcomed a lot of players back into Pokémon, and the gameplay is pretty casual. Another option is Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl; it’s a solid way to get back into the series with familiar vibes.
I’m with you on HeartGold being slow. If you’re wanting to explore the 3DS titles, definitely check out Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire—they’re pretty friendly for returning players.
Those are solid choices! Plus, they have updated graphics and are really fun!
Yeah, Black 2 is really fun! It kept me engaged with the story and improvements over the original.
