I’ve got a PC with the following specs: MSI GeForce RTX 3060 GPU with 12GB VRAM, an AMD Ryzen 5 4500 six-core CPU overclocked, 16GB of RAM (brand unknown), a 2TB WD-Black SSD, and an MSI A520-MA motherboard. So far, I’ve only upgraded my storage from a 512GB Kingston SSD to the current 2TB SSD. I play games like Fortnite, Roblox, Phasmophobia, Bodycam, Rocket League, and Microsoft Flight Simulator. Lately, I’ve been experiencing freezing issues in Fortnite, especially when I’m screen sharing on Discord while playing. I suspect it might be a RAM issue, but I’m not sure if upgrading RAM alone will fix this. I’d rather not upgrade my GPU right now. What would you guys suggest I upgrade to improve my setup and fix these freezing problems?

If you’re running into freezes during gaming and screen sharing, the first place to look is your RAM. 16GB is decent, but depending on how many apps are running alongside the game (like Discord screen sharing), you might be hitting a limit. Upgrading to 32GB could definitely help smooth things out. After that, upgrading your CPU to something like a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X would give you a nice boost in performance, especially in games that rely on CPU power. Your motherboard should support those CPUs with a BIOS update, so no need to replace it unless you want newer features.
Yeah, generally the A520 chipset supports Ryzen 5000 series with a BIOS update. Just check MSI’s website for the latest BIOS version and upgrade instructions, and you should be good to go without swapping your motherboard.
Thanks! Do you think just a BIOS update on my MSI A520-MA would be enough for a Ryzen 5600 CPU upgrade, or would I need a new motherboard to avoid compatibility issues?
