I’m building my first PC and trying to decide between the AMD RX 7800 XT and the Nvidia RTX 4060 Ti 16GB. I’ll be playing a mix of competitive games like CS2 and also story-driven games. Both cards are roughly the same price for me, so I’m wondering which one would be the better choice overall, considering performance and extra features like DLSS and ray tracing.

If price isn’t the deciding factor since they’re about the same cost, I’d lean towards the RTX 4060 Ti. Nvidia’s DLSS and Multi-Frame Generation tech really help boost performance and visuals, especially in story games where smoothing and upscaling make a difference. Plus, Nvidia tends to have better ray tracing support and driver stability compared to AMD’s current gen cards.
Honestly, if you want to wait a bit, AMD’s upcoming 90xx series might offer better options with improved features. Right now, RDNA3 cards like the 7800 XT aren’t as strong on ray tracing, and they don’t support the latest upscaling tech like FSR 4.0. Nvidia still leads in those areas, making the 4060 Ti a safer pick for a versatile gaming setup.
@CodeSlayer77 Yeah, I don’t care so much about the brand as long as the card performs well. Sounds like the 4060 Ti with its DLSS could be the more future-proof option.
@GamerByte9000 That makes sense about DLSS and driver stability. I mostly want smooth gameplay, so having those extra features is appealing.
From raw performance benchmarks, the RX 7800 XT is faster by roughly 18%. So if pure frame rates for competitive play like CS2 are your priority, that AMD card might edge out the Nvidia. But then again, Nvidia’s DLSS can often compensate by improving frame rates dynamically while keeping visuals sharp, so it balances out depending on the games you play.
