I’m looking for games that natively recognize the L4, L5, R4, and R5 buttons without needing to customize settings. I tried mapping these extra buttons in Last Epoch today, but the game didn’t register them at all. Do any of you actually use these buttons, and if so, which games support them out of the box?

Most games don’t recognize L4/L5/R4/R5 as distinct buttons. SteamInput allows remapping the controls, so you can set them to other functions, like Left Stick click instead, though they won’t show up in the game’s UI directly.
I’m curious too about this! It seems like many games don’t have native support for those buttons.
XCOM 2 is another one with official button mapping for the Steam Deck, which is nice!
Right? It’s not just a generic layout either; it actually utilizes the Steam Deck’s buttons correctly.
You should check out Valve games, as well as American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Sim 2; they have the back buttons in their default layouts.
No Man’s Sky supports these buttons straight away! It’s got a ton of configuration options for different controls.
Totally agree! No Man’s Sky is the only game I’ve seen that has built-in backpedal support without needing to tweak anything.
Thanks for the tip! I had no idea it required manual configuration. I’ll give that a shot.
