I’ve just started playing Horizon: Forbidden West and after waiting weeks for it to install, I’ve finally made it through the long intro/tutorial. It took me about an hour and a half to reach an epic cutscene with credits! It got me thinking about other games that really drag out the introduction, only to reveal it was just a tiny snippet of the actual gameplay. What are some games you think have similarly lengthy intro sequences?

Assassin’s Creed 3 has an outrageous intro. It takes about 6 hours before you can finally wear your assassin gear and really start the game.
For me, Dragon’s Dogma 2 felt like one long tutorial. It’s almost like they forgot to give you a proper intro after all that!
Red Dead Redemption 2 is another one that comes to mind. I totally get why it takes its time with story and mechanics, but man, it feels like the intro drags on way too long!
I came here to agree with you! It’s an amazing game but that intro really tests your patience.
If you’re into JRPGs, Persona 5 Royal takes the cake. The first dungeon doubles as a tutorial and lasts around 5 hours! It’s a long trek out of a 100-hour game, but totally worth it if you’re into the characters and story.
The Witcher 3 felt like it took ages to get into the main game. All of White Orchard is practically a tutorial. You think you’ve been adventuring for hours only to realize you’re still at the beginning!
Haha, I totally remember that! It opens up so beautifully, but man, those first few hours are like a guided tour of the game mechanics.
Same here! I got a bit frustrated, but ended up loving it after I pushed through.
Right? By the time you get into the action, I was already feeling a bit burnt out from the lengthy tutorial.
