I just finished the Demon’s Souls Remake and absolutely loved the combat and level design! It was my first FromSoftware game and my second soulslike after playing Wukong, which was good but didn’t quite match the Demon’s Souls experience. Now, I’m eager to dive into more games like it but can’t decide between Bloodborne, the Dark Souls Trilogy, or Lies of P. I feel like Dark Souls 1 is the natural choice, but I’m concerned about how the remaster holds up graphically and if the combat feels smooth, especially since PS2 and PS3 games tend to age poorly. I’ve seen some gameplay clips, and I’m worried it might feel jarring. On the other hand, I’m curious about how similar Bloodborne and Lies of P are to Demon’s Souls. I enjoyed the slower pace and realistic swordplay of DeS, and I know Bloodborne is much faster and less realistic. Any suggestions would be super helpful!

For the closest experience to Demon’s Souls, go for Dark Souls 1 or 2. The series does pick up speed after that with games like Bloodborne and DS3, but they’re both unique and great in their own ways. If you’re looking to switch it up a bit, Elden Ring has a bit of a slower pace, and I’ve also heard that Lords of the Fallen does a good job of capturing that DeS vibe. Much better than Lies of P, to be honest.
You can’t go wrong with Dark Souls if you’re looking for “more of the same” as Demon’s Souls. Bloodborne and Lies of P offer different experiences. That said, Dark Souls is still a gem even today; the remaster looks decent and plays well. If graphics are a big concern, you might want to dive into Dark Souls 3 first and check out DS1 later when you’re feeling nostalgic!
If you loved Demon’s Souls, I’d recommend sticking with Dark Souls. It’s more in line with DeS than Bloodborne or Lies of P, which are actually quite similar to each other. Dark Souls has a fantastic atmosphere and gameplay that you’ll likely enjoy. After that, definitely give Bloodborne a try and maybe Sekiro for a different flavor later on!
Bloodborne and the Souls Trilogy are both excellent picks after Demon’s Souls, but just a heads-up about Lies of P—it trades away amazing level design and atmosphere for its parry-centric combat style. While the combat is fun, the exploration is kinda bland, and it doesn’t provide the same sense of wonder that you get in Souls games.
Definitely start with Dark Souls 1 and then try out 2. After that, Bloodborne will be a fantastic follow-up, and Dark Souls 3 ramps up the challenge and gameplay! Just be prepared that the pacing will be different with Bloodborne compared to DeS.
