My two friends and I are looking for a great co-op game to play together on macOS. We’re deciding between Terraria, Stardew Valley, and Don’t Starve Together. We’re open to other suggestions too, but it has to run on macOS. Which one do you think offers the best experience for three people?

If you’re open to looking beyond your list, some other fantastic co-op options for three players on Mac include Valheim, Spelunky 2, and Raft. Each offers a different style of cooperative gameplay. Valheim has survival and exploration with RPG elements, Spelunky 2 is a fun and challenging roguelike platformer, and Raft is about building and defending your floating base. Borderlands 2 is also widely loved for co-op, but check if your Macs can handle it well.
Honestly, Terraria is still my top pick for co-op with three people. It’s got tons of content, and playing it blind with friends makes it super fun. If you love it, you can extend the experience with mods like Calamity, which add a ton more bosses and gear. Don’t Starve Together is way tougher and can be a bit stressful starting out, but if you want a challenge, it’s cool. Stardew Valley is more chill and farming-focused, so it’s great if you want a casual vibe instead.
Thanks, everyone! Seems Terraria is a fan favorite for solid fun and replayability, Core Keeper sounds like a cool hidden gem combining the best of the games I listed, and Stardew Valley offers the chill management vibe. I’ll check these out and see what fits our group best.
If you want some other great choices that work on Mac, you might try Trine or Magicka which are classic co-op games for three players. Also, Core Keeper and Portal Knights came up in conversations – Portal Knights is like Minecraft with RPG classes, which can be fun to explore as a team. Just a heads up, some games like Deep Rock Galactic are awesome but don’t support Mac, so keep that in mind when searching.
If you’re after a co-op experience that blends a bit from all three games you mentioned, you should definitely check out Core Keeper. It has that top-down 2D style like Don’t Starve and Stardew Valley, but the gameplay id influenced by Terraria’s action and base-building. Terraria’s side-scrolling platforming isn’t for everyone, so Core Keeper feels more accessible. It also mixes farming, cooking, fishing, and combat, giving you tons of variety without being punishing like Don’t Starve. Plus, if you like base-building and exploration with friends, this could be a perfect fit.
I’ve heard good buzz about Core Keeper, will give it a shot, thanks for the heads up!
Thanks for suggestions! I did try Deep Rock Galactic but unfortunately one of my friends only has a Mac, so that’s out for our group.
