Which Final Fantasy Games Have You Played? Your First and Favorite Titles?

-

I recently finished Final Fantasy IV for the second time and realized I’ve played quite a bunch of the series by now, including FF II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, and IX. It got me thinking about what everyone else has experienced in the series. I can’t quite remember which one I played first — maybe FF VI or V on GBA? Also, I’m curious if your first Final Fantasy is also your favorite. For me, FF VI takes the top spot, with IX and VII close behind. Would love to hear your stories!

I started with Final Fantasy VII and it’s still one of my favorites alongside VIII and IX, which are tied for first if you don’t count remakes or spinoffs. It’s been a blast diving through the series, though it’s tricky to get into some of the newer ones without the latest consoles or a good PC setup. I’m hoping to try out 10 through 16 eventually since those entries tend to shake up the standard formula.

Yeah, same here! I wish I had a next-gen console or gaming PC because I’ve wanted to try those later entries for a while now. The older games on handhelds and classic consoles are great, but the newer ones look like a whole different beast.

I’ve played every mainline Final Fantasy and finished most of them. My very first was the original Final Fantasy on NES, but I was super young and didn’t really get it back then. It wasn’t until I played Final Fantasy IV and VI on SNES years later that I really got hooked on the series and RPGs in general. Picking a favorite is tough, but I’d say XIV stands out, and if you exclude the MMOs, I’d pick VI.

I’ve played all numbered games up to 11, skipping 12 and 13 since I never got into them, and also avoided 15 so far. Started with FF4 or what used to be called FF2 in the US, actually, and it’s still up there among my favorites. But I have to say, the OG VII and Final Fantasy Tactics are my all-time favorites for different reasons.

Started with Final Fantasy VI back in the day, and I’ve played every main installment besides XI (MMO) and 16 (still playing it). My favorite has gotta be VII for its story and impact, but I really appreciate all the games I’ve played — even the ones with different battle systems. FFVIII is also a close second for me because of the unique junction mechanic and that funky ’90s vibe.

I’ve heard a lot about FFVIII but never gave it a full try yet. I love those PS1-era games too though, so I should finally dive into it properly.

I’ve tried almost all the main titles plus spinoffs. My first Final Fantasy was actually XV, which kinda surprised me because normally people start with the classics. I loved XV despite its flaws, and it’s the game that got me into the whole series. But if I’m honest, my favorite has to be VIII — it’s weird and experimental, but that’s what makes it so memorable to me. Also, I’m really hyped for the final part of the VII Remake series; I think it might even take the top spot if they nail it.
