I’ve never played Final Fantasy before, but I’m really intrigued by Sephiroth’s character. He looks so cool that I want to actually see him in some games rather than just hear his music or play him in Smash Bros. I’ve heard that the Final Fantasy stories are often separate from one another, so I’m curious about which games include Sephiroth, especially those that give good story context. I want to start playing and hopefully get hooked! Where do I begin?

If you just want to see Sephiroth in action, the Remake trilogy is your best bet, since he plays a more active role there. Also, check out the Dissidia games; they’re fun fighters where Sephiroth is a playable character. Just a heads up, the older Dissidia titles were on PSP, but the newer ones are more accessible.
Sephiroth is primarily from Final Fantasy VII and its related games. You should definitely start with the original Final Fantasy VII, then check out the remakes like Final Fantasy VII Remake and the upcoming Rebirth. Don’t forget about Crisis Core and Before Crisis for more backstory!
Yeah, and if you get into the story, Advent Children is a cool follow-up film!
To really dive into Sephiroth’s universe, you’ll want to look into the entire Final Fantasy VII compilation. Key games include the original, Crisis Core, and Dirge of Cerberus. If you’re looking for some non-game content, there’s also an anime and several novels that flesh out his story even more!
Good point! Just remember he has limited screen time in the original FFVII; you’ll see more of him in the Remake.
