I’m planning to grind a double-barreled heavy tank line and I’ve been looking mostly at the Soviet and British options. I don’t have any British tanks researched yet, and I’ve heard the Soviet line looks pretty good. I know the T-703 II is considered one of the best, and the British grind might be a bit too long for me, so I’m debating if the Soviet line is really worth it. Also, I love the salvo shot sound effect—does the Soviet line have that too? No interest in premium tanks, just the regular grind.

People who say British doubles are super inaccurate probably haven’t played them much. The actual mechanics mean your aiming circle turns into an oval in salvo mode, which is way more accurate than it looks on paper. You can reliably hit targets from across the map and dish out high damage.
Basically, the Canopener (British tier 9) is considered borderline broken due to its armor and firepower. You can angle your turret just right to hide weak spots and it’s super versatile—side scraping works, positioning on maps is flexible, plus you can quickly switch ammo types.
The Soviet double-barreled heavies can’t really compete with that level of armor and versatility. If you want a strong and fun tank, I’d recommend getting the British line before any nerfs hit. Also, the grind is not as brutal as people make it out to be, and the tier 9 British tank is a blast to play but I’d keep the stock turret for best results.
Both Soviet and British double-barreled heavy tanks have their own strengths and weaknesses, so it really depends on your playstyle and what you value more.
In double-shot mode, Soviet tanks maintain their usual accuracy, whereas British tanks become less accurate, kind of like the T92 HMC with a disabled crew member. That said, British tanks have near-perfect gun handling, which means once fully aimed, they stay locked in – kind of more like a precision shotgun than a sniper rifle. The British also have a ‘siege mode’ that makes firing easier with just a normal click, while Soviets require you to charge the shot, but after a bit of practice, the charging isn’t a big deal and you might even get an edge since you don’t lose mobility toggling modes.
For single shots, Soviets are easier to handle because you can just fire repeatedly like an auto-loader, but British tanks need to reload both barrels even for single shots. British single shots are more accurate when stationary, but on the move Soviets seem to perform better.
As for tank characteristics, Soviets are more mobile, British are a bit more armored (though not by a huge margin). Most people find the Soviet line’s sweet spot at tier 9, while with the British, the tier 9 ‘Canopener’ is considered very strong but is a grind to unlock.
I’ve played both, and honestly, the British double-barreled tanks are like mini heavyhold monsters. They excel in locking down positions and making those one-shot trades with their double barrels. The double shot feels more like a bonus rather than the main feature since their turret is fantastic, dps is solid and accuracy is great even on the move.
The Soviet doublesger by contrast relies heavily on that autoloader/double barrel mechanic for its identity and playstyle, plus you get typical Soviet features like less than stellar gun depression and quirky hull armor.
One more tip: the British line actually starts with a tier 7 double-barreled tank, which is a great stepping stone and pretty strong in its own right. Soviets only kick off at tier 8, so if you want an easier start, British might be better.
The British double-barreled line, especially the Canopener at tier 9, is known to be pretty strong but strong enough that some people expect a nerf in the future once many people unlock it. So if you want to get something that’s quite powerful now, the British line is the way to go. Just be ready for the grind.
But the Soviet line is great too if you want more mobility and a playstyle where the double barrels are a core part of your strategy. The Soviets also have that satisfying shotgun feel with the salvo shot. However, their gun depression isn’t the best and their hull armor can be a bit trollish, so it’s a different kind of challenge.
Keep in mind the British have a strong tier 7 double-barreled heavy that might make their whole line feel more consistent from earlier tiers, while the Soviet line doesn’t start until tier 8.
Thanks! Between those two, which would you pick for fun and effectiveness? I already have T-150 and worry the British line grind would be tough.
