After the big reveal in Pillars of Eternity 1 that the gods were created by Kith, I expected PoE2 to dive into this process and explain how it works. Instead, it barely scratches the surface. Now with Avowed introducing a new god, Sapadal, formed in an isolated civilization, it feels like we’re still left in the dark. It’s frustrating that while we see this god emerge, we receive no indication of how this all happens. Shouldn’t Avowed have been a chance to clarify this mysterious process instead of just saying, ‘Yep, they have their own god but no idea how’?

Honestly, I think it’s somewhat explained already. We’ve learned that the gods emerged when the Kith created the Wheel, and it’s been shown that the Wheel siphons soul energy. It’s been established that reincarnation can happen outside the Wheel and that deities can come from Adra itself. It looks like gods might occur naturally, and the whole reincarnation process is tied to this. The Engwithans might have set up a network to empower different god personalities from soul energy, even if they were deceptive about not finding gods.
Is there a specific source that indicates the Engwithans lied about finding gods? I can see your point, especially with Sapadal’s existence.
Well, it’s worth noting that the gods’ powers are weakening because the Wheel was broken. If the Envoy frees Sapadal, we might finally get some insights about how this god came to be through a closed Adra system! Plus, there are hints that the Engwithans had no ruins in the Living Lands, which is odd. There’s also an ancient tablet that references a language of the “Godless” which could potentially shed some light on their history.
Great explanation! The lore really keeps on expanding and it’s fascinating to follow.
