When Does Character Switching Happen in Resident Evil: Code Veronica X After Saving Claire?

-

I’m playing Resident Evil: Code Veronica X and really enjoying it so far. The game feels pretty easy with some tips I’ve gotten, but one thing that’s bugging me is how the game switches you between Claire and Chris without warning, and you don’t get your inventory items back after a switch. I want to avoid softlocks or making battles way harder just because I missed something. I recently saved Claire, and then she got separated from Chris and met Steve, who turned into a monster. I died to him on my first try and noticed there’s no autosave during that fight, so I want to be prepared before trying again. Could someone tell me when the next character switches happen after saving Claire? Also, should I keep strong weapons like the grenade launcher on Claire or save them for Chris? I’d appreciate some guidance without heavy spoilers, just enough so I can plan my inventory and be ready for those switches.

I gotcha on the no warning and no autsave during the Steve fight. It’s rough! The main thing is that you’ll switch back to Chris pretty quickly after that event. Definitely put your grenade launcher and other heavy stuff away until then—Chris is who’ll need it. Claire’s inventory won’t always come with you during switches, so plan accordingly by stashing good weapons for later.

Hey! I went through that part recently too. The big tip is that you don’t really need heavy firepower for the Steve fight—dodging and running back through the gate works better than fighting him head-on. After that, the game will switch you back to Chris pretty soon. So don’t worry too much about loading Claire down with the grenade launcher or other big guns; save those strong weapons for Chris since that’s when you’ll use them next.

Thanks, that helps a lot! Guess I’ll just carry some lighter stuff for now and keep Chris ready.

Yeah, this game doesn’t hold your hand at all, which is part of the charm but can be annoying for inventory management. I found that after that intense Steve moment, you swap to Chris shortly after. Make sure to save all the good gear for Chris because you’ll need it. Claire’s parts after the swap are usually a bit more puzzle/exploration focused, so you can kinda get away with lighter weapons and ammo for her.

Code Veronica X really throws you into the deep end with the switching, huh? After you save Claire and face off against the Steve monster, you’ll switch back to Chris somewhat soon, but the game won’t warn you directly. The best bet is to keep your inventory organized and stash the important big guns for Chris beforehand. Claire’s sections can be done more with lighter weapons and evasion since fights tend to be trickier without your heavy firepower.
