I’ve encountered some long matches in Hourglass mode, especially in solos, where I’ve had to deal with TDM spammers or pirates who just reset after taking a couple of holes. My buddy and I made a decision to scuttle if a match goes on too long; usually, we check in around the 15-minute mark and make a decision to scuttle at 20 minutes. I know it doesn’t happen often, but when it does, it can really ruin the fun. What are your own limits for scuttling and how do you handle frustrating matches?

I don’t usually scuttle, but I really dig the idea of wasting a runner’s time. If they keep running, I’ll chase them down! It’s like playing a waiting game until they get bored or give me the fight they signed up for. Gotta show those runners that they can’t just get away with it!
Right? If you keep up the chase, they might just give in and engage. I know it can be a drag, but sometimes it’s about showing them who’s boss!
I guess it depends. Usually, I only scuttle if it’s gone over an hour or if I’m dealing with racists or hackers. Those situations ruin the game for me completely. I prefer to keep trying to improve if I can, so I wouldn’t want to bail early unless it’s really bad.
For sure, you gotta know when it’s time to cut your losses. But also, those hackers really ruin the vibe and it’s understandable to want to bail.
Yeah, it’s all about keeping the game fun. I refuse to give those types my time.
For me, it’s all about the supplies. If I’m running low, I’ll either dip or decide it’s time to scuttle. Most of the time, I want to keep fighting until it’s really hopeless though.
Yeah, I’d rather keep going until I’m out of supplies too. Plus, you learn a lot in the longer fights.
Totally! Each match is a chance to learn, so I try to hold on as long as I can.
Dude, I don’t scuttle. If I know a loss is inevitable, I’ll practice sniping them off cannons. If they’re running, they probably aren’t that skilled anyway—they’ll mess up sooner or later, and I’d rather go down fighting than just give up.
Exactly! Plus, there’s always a chance to catch them off guard. I focus on getting better, so a loss isn’t really a loss if I’m learning.
True! I’ve had matches where I managed to turn things around after a couple of kills. It can shift quickly in those battles.
Honestly, I never scuttle. I only really encounter it when both ships are completely out of ammo, and at that point, I usually just call it a draw and move on! It’s all about enjoying the game for me anyway.
That’s a good mindset! Plus, when you start getting into that rhythm and don’t care about a win, it can be way more fun.
Exactly! Just go for the enjoyment of the battles—scuttling isn’t really worth it.
I feel you! Honestly, runners only keep doing it because some players just quit chasing. I once chased a guy for four hours while watching TV—it was kind of ridiculous, but worth it to teach him a lesson.
