Hey everyone! I’m getting back into the Final Fantasy series after taking a break, and I’m currently playing through Final Fantasy XIII. I remember having some frustrations with the game feeling a bit hands-off, similar to my experience with FF12, where it felt like I wasn’t really in control of the battles. I’m currently in chapter 3 and wondering when the game finally lets you take the reins and stops throwing tutorials at you. I really want to enjoy the game but I’m hoping it opens up soon!

Chapter 5 is where things really begin to pick up. Enemies start getting tougher, and you’ll need to strategize with your paradigms to keep up. The auto-battle system is definitely handy early on, but you’ll find yourself needing to think fast as you progress. Trust me, there’s depth here—just give it a bit more time!
Exactly! Once you reach the challenges, it’s a whole new game.
Honestly, the game really does feel like it’s still in tutorial mode for the first part. Once you reach the more challenging bosses around the end of Chapter 9, you’ll find that it finally opens up. Until then, just keep rolling with it and focus on learning the combat system as it introduces new roles. It does get much better!
Phew, glad to know it gets more engaging. I felt like I was stuck in training mode!
Yep! You’ll need to be quick on your feet later in the game.
The tutorials definitely start to ease up around Chapter 5, but don’t get too comfortable just yet! You’ll still face some tutorial moments up until Chapter 10. The game really holds your hand in the beginning, especially through the first few chapters. Once you hit Chapter 3, you’ll start to see more complex mechanics come into play, especially with the paradigm shifts. It’s a bit of a slow burn, but give it time!
I hope it gets better! I’m really looking forward to using all those paradigms once it opens up.
Yeah, I remember feeling the same way. Just hang tight and you’ll get more freedom soon!
That’s good to hear! I was worried it’d be too easy the whole time.
