I’ve been thinking about the differences between zombies in Resident Evil games. The zombies from RE4 and later can actually use weapons and show some level of intelligence, while the remakes focus more on the classic, mindless zombies. What do you all prefer in a Resident Evil game? Do you lean towards the intelligent, tactical zombies like the Ganados, or do you prefer the more docile, wandering kind from earlier games? Let’s hear your thoughts!

Both styles have their charm. What I find intriguing is how they represent different kinds of horror. Classic zombies tap into the primal fear of losing control, while the Ganados reflect societal corruption and the way ideologies can twist people into monsters. It’s like facing two sides of the same chilling coin.
I really enjoy wandering zombies. The Ganados and Majini feel too much like fighting regular people, especially when they start whipping out guns. The classic zombies feel more like a hazard in the environment, which makes dodging and navigating around them thrilling. I recently replayed RE2R and reminded myself how much I love the tension of having to be quiet while avoiding lickers and Mr. X. It’s a whole different level of suspense compared to just blasting away at Ganados. Plus, the classic zombies get scarier because you can more easily get cornered. It’s about survival, not just combat!
I like both types, honestly. The virus zombies tend to work better in tight spaces, while the parasite-infected ones are more suited for outdoor chaos. At the end of the day, they both need to be taken out, so it’s just about the setting and type of horror you’re feeling in the moment.
Weapons and tactics were more prevalent in RE6, so I find that a bit of a misfit here. The focus on Ganados and the like really shaped the horror aspect differently than previous entries.
