What's Your Favorite Final Fantasy Game and Why?

-

I’m curious to know which Final Fantasy game you guys like the most and what makes it your favorite. For me, it’s Final Fantasy XII mainly because of nostalgia—I played it a lot on the PS2. I even tried the remaster without a guide, but I got totally lost deep inside the Great Crystal and had to stop. What about you? Which Final Fantasy game stands out to you and why?

Final Fantasy IX is my top pick. I was kinda burned out on the modern vibes and brooding characters from VII and VIII, so this really felt like a refreshing return to fantasy roots. The characters are charming and memorable, the gameplay and systems are solid, the side quests actually reward you, and the art direction looks amazing. It’s got that classic feel but still brings its own magic.

Gotta say I think Final Fantasy V is the quintessential FF. It nails the classic medieval fantasy vibe with its big epic involving Crystals. Plus, it was the first to really give the four Warriors of Light distinct personalities. The job system here is easily the gold standard and super rewarding to play around with. The villain Exdeath feels like a true menace throughout, much like staples like Kefka or Sephiroth. Each of the five main characters actually get solid development which is awesome. Overall, it just feels like the perfect balance of everything.

I’m a big fan of Final Fantasy XIV too, but for different reasons. I love being able to customize my character, especially since I play as a cute dragon girl with tons of outfits. It’s super fun playing with friends online and the story is easily one of the best I’ve seen in any video game. The MMO side can be a bit much, but the social and creative freedom more than makes up for it.

For me it’s Final Fantasy XII because of all the PS2 nostalgia. I remember loving the world and story, even though the gameplay could get pretty complex. I recently tried the remaster without any walkthrough and got stuck way too deep in the Great Crystal, so I had to put it down for a while. Still, it stands out for me as a unique and memorable adventure in the series.

I’m all about Final Fantasy XIV. The story, characters, music, and world-building are incredible. The expansions Shadowbringers and Endwalker really hit me hard emotionally — I even teared up a few times. The MMO gameplay isn’t perfect for everyone, but I find it fun enough, especially with friends joining in. Overall, it’s my favorite Final Fantasy experience and game in general.
