I’m searching for a top-notch ‘dudes on a map’ style strategy game. Ideally, it should be turn-based with a variety of units. I’ve tried diving into Hex of Steel, but it’s a bit overwhelming with too much information for short play sessions. I’m looking for something similar but more streamlined. Any recommendations that fit this ‘dudes on a map’ category are welcome!

Have you considered XCOM or Final Fantasy Tactics? Both fit the ‘dudes on a map’ vibe pretty well. XCOM can be a bit heavy on menus between combat, which might be a turn-off if you’re looking for fast play. However, FFT might be more up your alley, even though it’s more on the smaller scale. Worth giving the series a shot!
