Hey everyone, I need some help figuring out what’s going on with my PS5. Lately, it crashes while playing most games, and I’ve tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps like cleaning it, resetting the system, and clearing the cache, but nothing seems to work. The weird thing is that the crashes aren’t consistent—some PS5 games work while others don’t, and oddly enough, I can play games made on proprietary engines like Kingdom Come 2 and Doom without issues, but games built on Unreal Engine 5 or the RE Engine fail to run. To make things worse, this problem started just after my warranty expired, so if it can’t be fixed, I’ll need to shell out cash for repairs. It’s been well taken care of and never dropped, which makes me wonder if it’s a manufacturing defect. I’m not very tech-savvy, so I’d love to hear if anyone else has experienced this or has any advice. Thanks in advance!

Could you tell us if the console is actually crashing or if it’s showing a different issue? Like, what’s happening when the games crash?
Are most of your games digital? You might want to try moving some to the M.2 drive if you haven’t. A full system reset could help too, it might fix any lingering corruption. If it’s anything like the PS4, you can reinstall the firmware from safe mode.
Yeah, I mostly have digital games since I game share with my friend. I have a few disc games, but not enough to really test it out. I did try resetting it once before, but I might go for it again.
Sounds like a known issue; my PS5 started crashing about a week after I got it. Some games trigger it more than others. I took mine for repairs at an independent place, and they charged me around £90 to fix the power supply and also replaced the HDMI port at no extra cost. Going through Sony would have been way more expensive—over £230! Unique services like these can come with a two-year warranty too, so consider that.
Have you checked if your software is up to date? Maybe try deleting and reinstalling a problematic game? It could also be an overheating issue, so don’t forget to clean it out piecemeal.
I’ve done all those steps already, even deleted save data just in case it was corrupted. I cleaned it several times, thinking it might be a ventilation issue, but it’s never thrown an overheating notification, so I doubt that’s the issue.
PLATFORM INFORMATION

The games crash right at the boot screen. If it’s a game that crashes consistently, it usually happens when it’s loading the game world or as I start the application.
