I’ve been trying to wrap my head around the ranked system in this game. It seems like every time I check online, people are posting about how they reached Legend with some really questionable decks. For instance, I keep seeing this all-spell Mage deck that, while unique, really underperforms. I can’t help but wonder if I’m missing something here. If I were to try playing with those decks, I feel like I’d lose almost every match! How is it possible for some players to rank up so high with such awful strategies?

Yeah, there’s definitely more to it than meets the eye. The matchmaking rating (MMR) plays a huge role. Take two players at Diamond 1—what it means for one could be a lot tougher than the other. It’s all about the competition they faced. If someone hits 2k Legend, they likely had pretty decent opponents; hitting 8k might mean they had a smoother ride with lower MMR opponents.
That’s a bummer! It’s frustrating how a lot of games have these ‘easy’ paths to the top now. I’ve noticed similar trends in games where the matchmaking just doesn’t reflect skill properly. It makes competitive play feel a bit diluted. I really miss the old school, tough ranked modes too!
