I recently returned to League after a few months and found myself placed in Silver. It feels like every match I play has a smurf on either team. For example, I encountered a player who is Iron 1 but seems way too good for that rank. I even noticed an Emerald player in a game with a Draven. What’s going on? Is the player count so low that matchmaking has to throw together all these players from different skill levels? I’m curious about what changed while I was away.

Yeah, it’s pretty wild! Most ranks are filled with smurfs or players on new accounts. At this point, half of the challengers seem to be playing on smurf accounts, and the matchmaking system struggles to balance these players with newer folks who just want a fair chance.
I hear you complaining about smurfs, but some players just can’t hold their own either. If you’re having a tough time, maybe consider adjusting your strategy. It’s a challenging environment right now for low elo players!
True, there are definitely trolls too. It’s just hard to tell who’s playing for real and who’s just messing around.
Honestly, it feels like smurfing is rampant in low elo. I’ve noticed tons of players who should be way higher in ranks playing down there. It’s frustrating for those of us trying to climb. But hey, maybe take a look at your own gameplay too? Sometimes we might be the issue too!
Lol, you’re right about checking our own play. But smurfs make it super tough for us, don’t you think?
That’s exactly it! I was so excited to try ranked again, but all these smurfs have made it miserable. They really take the fun out of the game.
