I’ve always enjoyed Pokémon and found fun in the stories, mechanics, and team-building challenges, especially in older games. However, I’m starting to wonder what the real objective is when I find myself relying heavily on guides and tools like IV and EV checkers just to get by in battles. I finished Pokémon Y and enjoyed that experience, but when I switched to Pokémon Moon, I hit a wall. The gameplay felt excessively challenging, especially with low catch rates and the need for constant player interaction with Pokémon Refresh. I’ve tried playing Pokémon Black 2 without any outside help, but it just doesn’t feel fun or rewarding when I have no clue about stats or strategies. So I’m left questioning: what’s the point of playing Pokémon if I’m not really improving? Do most people rely on guides and walkthroughs, or do others really learn everything about Pokémon?

Honestly, I think the main goal in Pokémon is to ‘catch ’em all.’ The games really set that up as a central focus. But it’s also about enjoying the journey, right? That includes training and playing with your Pokémon as much as catching them. It’s not all about being the best; it can just be about the fun you have along the way.
For me, the story and characters are what draw me in. I love zoning out and getting lost in the world, especially in the latest games. They really connect with the players on a personal level, and I enjoy exploring those narratives just as much as the gameplay!
