I’ve already completed a playthrough as an ice mage, using spells like ice pillar and ice blast, which felt super overpowered. Now I’ve switched to being a gunslinger, but I really miss the excitement of magic. If I decide to go back to magic, is there a type that’s more fun than ice? Should I go for pure fire or lightning, or is a hybrid build a good option?

I’ve tried all the elemental magics, and honestly, ice is by far the best and most fun. The downside is that poison doesn’t really shine until late in the game since it lacks its own wand. While I had a decent time with shock—its long-range capabilities let me drop lightning storms on distant foes—it’s just not as effective as ice. Freezing enemies is way better than just stunning them with shock!
Poison really struggles against common enemies early on, making it a situational choice. You wouldn’t want a full mage build reliant on spells that aren’t effective all the time. But paired with a melee or caster setup, it can be great!
I’m usually a fire mage, but I’m 50/50 between freeze and shock. There’s something immensely satisfying about tossing a chain shock at enemies and watching it bounce around, either taking them out or leaving them stunned for follow-up attacks!
For a different vibe, I’d recommend trying space magic. It’s got a unique feel that can be super engaging!
I love using lightning storms to fry a group of enemies standing in puddles. It’s just so satisfying to see them all get zapped!
I’m currently trying my hand at a gun wizard, and let me tell you, storm magic is a game-changer. When you cast a level 3 storm, it roots enemies and does massive damage while also stunning and shocking them. It pairs perfectly with the lightning pistol!
Crackling Bolt is a blast! Watching it bounce around big groups is just pure fun!
Curse me for playing the correct type on the first playthrough!
