I currently main a destruction warlock, and while I enjoy casting chaos bolts, I find the spec pretty straightforward to play. I’m looking for something that offers more of a challenge. What is the hardest DPS spec to learn and master, but also one that provides great rewards once you get the hang of it?

I think mages are worth considering! They have a high skill ceiling and a lot of decision-making involved, which makes them pretty rewarding as you improve. I’ve played many ranged DPS specs, and mages have been the toughest to truly master for me; I can’t imagine maining anything else now.
Feral Druids can be challenging too, but sadly, they’re a bit low on the DPS charts. Even if you nail the complex mechanics, the payoff isn’t as great as you’d hope. On the other hand, Arcane Mages offer a different kind of challenge with plenty of mechanics to learn!
Beast Mastery (BM) Hunters can also be a fun, challenging option, but they’re a bit simpler than some other specs. Just keep in mind that mastering any spec requires time and practice!
In my opinion, the current Stormbringer Enhancement Shaman is no joke in terms of min-maxing! You have to juggle execution and knowledge, making it a real test of skill. When I do well on my enhance shaman, it really feels earned.
If you’re looking for a real test, consider a Subtlety Rogue. It’s often listed among the hardest specs to play. You have a lot of control over your damage output and can optimize like crazy. However, keep in mind that they aren’t performing top-tier right now in raids.
