I’m curious if I’m the only one who finds the naming of the Nintendo 3DS a bit confusing. It’s the third generation of the DS, right? So why do they call it ‘3DS’? Some folks say it should actually be called ‘3 DDS’ instead of ‘3DS,’ and it’s driving me a little crazy! I mean, it’s a dual screen system with 3D capabilities, so wouldn’t that make sense? Hearing ‘3 DDS’ instead of ‘3DS’ feels off to me. Am I alone in this?

People often joke about the name. It’s all about marketing – the 3DS combines 3D and DS, and that’s why it’s called that. However, legends say DS might not even stand for ‘dual screen’ despite what we think; Nintendo claims it stands for ‘Developers’ System.’ Pretty interesting, huh?
It’s simple: the 3DS is just that, the Nintendo 3DS! It’s the successor to the DS, and it incorporates 3D features, hence the name. Honestly, I don’t see the confusion; it’s pretty straightforward. Never heard anyone refer to it as ‘3 DDs’ before, so it’s kind of wild to me!
Honestly, it went from DS to 3DS. The 3DS is just what it is – they got a little clever with the name by mixing 3D and DS together. It’s not like they’re planning for a ‘Switch 2’ with the same type of naming convention, so that part’s different!
Right? I mean, I’ve only ever heard it called the 3DS. It’s a new system with a new branding. If some people are calling it ‘3DDs,’ I guess they just gotta adapt, lol!
