Hey everyone! I just discovered that Super Mario Bros has a version on the Play Store called Super Mario Run, and there’s also Mario Kart Tour. I saw that these games are free-to-play, and I’m curious if anyone has tried them. Can you share what the microtransactions are like?
I’m guessing there are probably cosmetic items, but I want to know if the games feel tedious to encourage purchases for skips or if it’s more like a demo where you pay once to unlock everything. I have the same question about some SEGA Sonic games, like Sonic Forces and Sonic Dash. Thanks for any insights!

Mario Kart Tour does have quite a few microtransactions. You can buy characters and character variations, some of which can get pretty pricey. They used to have a gacha system, but that’s gone now. They offer a gold pass that gets you into special modes and rewards, but keep in mind that Nintendo announced no more new content will be added—just reruns of events and tours. It’s kinda questionable if it’s worth getting into now, but there’s chatter they might release a complete edition like they did with Animal Crossing Pocket Camp with no microtransactions. That’d be nice!
Super Mario Run is actually not free-to-play in the traditional sense. At launch, you could only play a couple of levels for free, and after that, you have to pay around $10 to access the rest—so it’s mostly a demo setup. Just a heads up, it doesn’t look like a cash grab or anything like that!
This is good to know! At least it doesn’t seem like a trap.
That would be awesome! Thanks for the info!
