What's the Deal with All the Final Fantasy Games?

-

I’ve never really dove into the Final Fantasy series, but I’m curious about why there are so many games. Google tells me there are over 100 titles, and the latest installment is supposedly the 16th in the main series. Is it really necessary to have three games just to remake Final Fantasy VII? What’s the story behind all these games?

The franchise is super profitable! Companies like Square Enix keep making games because they know fans will buy them. Plus, there’s a big demand; just look at how many Pokémon games Nintendo has released!

Final Fantasy isn’t just one big story; think of it more like a collection of different tales set in unique worlds that share some common mechanics. Each game can stand alone, so the sheer number of titles makes sense when you look at its nearly 30-year history!

Many games in the series are actually spin-offs, and some take a radically different approach to gameplay. The remake of FFVII, for instance, isn’t just a lazy redo; it’s been reimagined into a full-fledged action RPG that’s so loaded with content it essentially became three separate games! It’s all about innovation and keeping the brand fresh while tapping into nostalgia.

I totally relate! I still love playing the older Mega Man games. There’s just something timeless about them!
