I’ve played through Leon A, Claire B, Claire A, and Leon B routes in Resident Evil 2 Remake. They all seem similar, mainly differing in where you start and when Mr. X shows up. What I’d like to know is, which of these paths is considered the canon order? Also, I noticed there are different outcomes for Annette’s character—how do we know which one is the canon version?

From the original game perspective, Claire A/Leon B was emphasized more. In the remake, all routes maintain similar gameplay, just with minor adjustments. So, I think every playthrough contributes to the story, making it a bit of a mix.
You pointed out that the differences are minor, and honestly, the scenarios don’t fully connect. But if we’re talking about story context, starting with Leon might make more sense since his flashback includes the initial virus injection while Claire deals with the aftermath. But it’s still sort of a mess with contradicting scenes for Annette depending on who you play.
There really isn’t a specific “canon” order. It’s always been about blending elements from both routes, which is why characters like Barry and Rebecca can survive in different stories. They all fit together loosely, and it’s up to players to interpret.
All the scenarios are actually considered canon and they all add to the overall story in some way.
