I’ve never played World of Warcraft before but I’m really interested in getting into it. I just subscribed and was totally bombarded by all the options—so many servers, expansions, and play styles! I’m curious to know the best way to kick off my adventure without the risk of my character getting transferred to a dead server after a season or expansion ends. Any advice would be appreciated!

Retail servers have made things super straightforward for new players. Just dive in and experience it for yourself without worrying too much about the details. Enjoy the journey!
Honestly, picking a realm now isn’t a big deal due to the crossover system in retail. You can just pick a realm that sounds fun, choose a class and race you like, and connect with other players easily! Don’t stress about reading guides at first; just jump into the game and enjoy it at your own pace!
No worries about character transfers unless you pay for it, so that’s a relief! I recommend diving into the retail version of WoW, or if you’re feeling nostalgic, the Cataclysm Classic is a nice balance between old and new. When you create your character, I wouldn’t suggest starting with Exile’s Reach since it has a weird plot. Just jump into a regular starting zone, do some quests, hit level 10, and go exploring. Choose a high or full population server to enjoy a vibrant gaming experience!
But I think you have to start with Exile’s Reach for your first character. It does have a bit of a dull storyline, but it’s helpful in teaching you the game mechanics—like moving abilities and dealing with elite enemies. Maybe try out Exile’s Reach, and if you’re curious about your character’s race lore, create another character to check out the traditional starting zones.
