Hey everyone! I recently got a Steam Deck about two months ago and just wrapped up both Last of Us games. Now, I’m curious to dive into Tears of the Kingdom, but I’ve heard the performance on the Switch isn’t that great—sometimes it struggles to hit 30fps even on better hardware than the first Switch.
I’ve been considering using Moonlight to stream the game and play at 60fps, but I’m not sure if that’s my best option. Are there any settings or tips for getting a good native FPS experience on the Steam Deck, or should I just go for Moonlight despite the hassle of having to power on my PC? Thanks for your insights!

I’d recommend trying Moonlight with Apollo. I played Breath of the Wild on my Steam Deck, and it struggled between 20 to 30fps, so Tears of the Kingdom will likely be more demanding. Just a tip: go with Apollo instead of Sunshine, since Apollo has a dynamic virtual screen feature that lets you turn off your display. Happy gaming!
Honestly, if you’re looking for the best experience, Switch 2 would be ideal! But if that’s not an option, sticking with Moonlight is your safest bet for now.
Listen, I know people love their emulators, but the Wii U version of BOTW through Cemu looks amazing and runs at 60fps with graphics updates. Just throwing that out there in case you want to explore other options!
