What's the Best Way to Jump into the Yakuza Series?

-

I’ve always seen the Yakuza games and they look super entertaining with all their randomness and cool combat. Plus, I’ve heard great things from Dunkey about them! I’m curious if there’s a specific order I should play them in, especially if there are any standout titles that I should definitely experience. I really love it when games offer a lot of randomness, so if any particular entries have that, let me know!

Definitely play them in chronological order! It goes 0 > Kiwami 1 > Kiwami 2 > 3 > 4 > 5 > 6 and then Like a Dragon (7) and onwards. Starting with 0 is great because it really sets the tone for the series. If you wanna mix it up a bit, you could start with Like a Dragon since it has a more modern RPG vibe, but you’ll miss out on a lot of lore if you skip the earlier titles. Also, look forward to the upcoming Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii; it promises to be super random and fun!

Great breakdown, thanks! I’m really excited about the randomness in those games.

The chronological order is definitely the way to go for Yakuza. You could technically start with Like a Dragon (7) since it’s a soft reboot with new characters and a turn-based system. But, playing from 0 first lets you experience the rich stories and connections between characters, which makes a huge difference in appreciating the later games. If you like randomness, make sure to stay tuned for the new Pirate Yakuza game; it looks like it’ll be a wild ride!

I’m glad to know I can start with 7 if I want something fresh. I like that approach!

You should really start with Yakuza 0. It’s one of the best games in the series and serves as a fantastic entry point since it introduces key characters and backstories. After that, just follow the chronological order: Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, and then all the way to 6. This way, you’ll get the full experience of the story as it unfolds!
