What's the Best Way to Dive into the Final Fantasy Series?

-

Hey everyone! I’m relatively new to gaming (or at least that’s what I think?), and I’m curious about getting into the Final Fantasy games. Is there a specific order to play them in, or can I just jump into any game, kind of like how you do with Undertale? The only Final Fantasy I’ve played before was FFX, which features Tidus and Yuna, but I never finished it because my brother sold the game when I was twelve. Any guidance would be appreciated!

You can totally start with any game that catches your eye. The only ones I wouldn’t recommend as first picks are the ones that are direct sequels, like FFX-2 or anything tied to FFXIII.

You’re right that FFX is the game you played! You can really play any of the main numbered titles since they tell separate stories. If I had to pick, I’d recommend starting with VII for a classic experience, but honestly, many love FFX too.

Heroic_Trigger -

Oh nice! VII is a fan favorite, and it’s a great entry point into the world of Final Fantasy. Each entry has its own vibe, so you’ll find something you enjoy!

The beauty of the series is that each game is its own universe with different characters and settings! Sure, there are sequels like FFX and FFX-2, but you can jump into most games without needing context from others. Plus, the gameplay mechanics vary greatly, from classic turn-based to action RPG style, especially in recent titles.

NewgenRocks -

Wow, that makes it sound way more accessible! It’s nice that I can pick a game based on the art style or story instead of worrying about a timeline.

EpicQuest99 -

If you haven’t tried them yet, I’d suggest checking out the pixel remasters of the early games. They’re a great way to get a taste of the classics and see where the series began!

RPGMaven -

Absolutely, every mainline game is like a new story. They often share themes or gameplay elements but aren’t reliant on one another. If you want to enjoy the so-called ‘golden era’, games like FF6 to FF10 are highly recommended. And if you’re looking for something more modern, check out FF15 or FF16. You’ve got a lot of great choices ahead of you!
