I’m currently on the hunt for Pokémon Scarlet/Violet or Pokémon Legends: Arceus. I’ve been keeping an eye on my local marketplace, but the lowest price I’ve spotted so far is around $40. Since I’m chronically ill and spend a lot of time in bed, my handheld games have been a lifesaver for me! However, my budget is pretty tight. Do you think it’s realistic to expect to find these games for about $25 without the case? I’ve come across Pokémon Sword for $20 with a case, but it’s an older title. Am I being overly optimistic about scoring a deal? I’ve even tried trading my $95 K-pop photocard collection to get one or two games, but no luck so far!

Back in the day, when Black and White 2 released, I found them for just $15 at Target right after they came out. Times sure have changed! Now, it seems like prices are just climbing higher after a game releases.
Yeah, Nintendo games typically go up in price over time. New releases might see a slight dip initially, but the trend is usually back up again. I bought a couple of older titles around $40 each just before COVID hit, and those prices have been pretty stable since. If you want any main Pokémon games, I’d say don’t expect to pay under $40.
Honestly, finding cheap Pokémon games is pretty tough. Most Nintendo exclusives, especially Pokémon, tend to hold their value or even increase over time. You might see some used versions for a few bucks less than retail, but don’t expect anything under $40 for mainline titles unless you’re super lucky!
I see what you’re saying, but I’ve come across Pokémon Sword and other titles for around $20-$25. I’m just looking for any signs that it’s possible to get games cheaper!
I wish it was easier, but I’m not tech-savvy enough for emulation or anything like that. Maybe prices will drop when they stop supporting the Switch like they did with the 3DS!
