I’m trying to figure out how to set up my controller for playing Ocarina of Time. What button mappings do you all recommend for a standard controller? I want to make sure I get the controls just right to match the original game experience.

I think the best way is to use the original control scheme if you can! There are definitely mapping guides online that can help you out.
I went with one of those third-party retro N64 controllers, and I’m really liking it. It works well for playing on both Switch Online and PC. I tried using the Switch Pro controller, but I just wasn’t feeling it as much!
For the PC port with a Switch Pro Controller, my setup is like this:
– Left stick for movement
– Right stick for camera control
– D-pad acts as extra C-buttons
– LZ for Z-targeting
– RZ for shielding
– And then the rest of the buttons as you’d expect: A for action, B for cancel. It makes playing a breeze!
Oh, and I also use gyro aiming, which is super handy!
If you’re looking for a more traditional experience, definitely try to find a reliable N64 controller to use. It just feels right when playing a classic like this!
That sounds solid! Using gyro for aiming is a nice touch! I might give that a shot too.
