I’m playing as a Swashbuckler rogue and just hit level 4. I’m kind of stuck on which talent to choose and I’m looking for some solid build tips. Any advice on how to optimize my character’s abilities and gameplay would be much appreciated!

To start strong, go with a 16 in Dex and Charisma. I went for expertise in Persuasion and Sleight of Hand. For level 4, I had a tough choice between +2 in Dex or Savage Attacker. I went with Savage Attacker but I’m still second-guessing that. I use a Rapier but ended up with a +1 Short Sword instead!
Definitely prioritize Dex! Aim for at least an 18 Dexterity as it’s crucial for your Sneak Attack to hit. It’s the lifeblood of your DPS!
I’m currently running a 4 Swashbuckler / 8 Hexblade build. It’s a blast! You might want to explore that combo as well.
Here’s what I’ve been doing with my pure Swashbuckler:
– Charisma is a must. I have mine at 14, which enhances my roleplaying.
– Pick expertise in Persuasion! It’ll greatly help with Panache and make you the charming scoundrel at the table. Plus, it’ll help if you want to strike deals with traders for some sweet discounts.
– Focus on single weapon fights. The Swashbuckler’s abilities shine when you utilize your bonus actions rather than dual-wielding.
– Also, consider using spells like Booming Blade for your sneak attacks. It feels like a budget smite and hits really hard. Happy swashbuckling!
Focus on getting those bonus actions in! At level 4, start by attacking with your bonus action first, then your main attack. I recommend a rapier if you’re not planning to dual-wield. Also, if you’re not boosting your Dex, consider Defensive Duelist or Moderately Armored as alternative feat options! That’s just my two cents, but you’ll feel powerful at level 4 for sure!
I’m in the same boat! I had some experience in a D&D session but I’m eager to learn more about what others have done for their Swashbuckler builds. Anyone else got tips?
