Hey everyone! I primarily play Irelia mid since I find her really fun and I can snowball leads in the early game. However, there are some matchups and team compositions where I feel like I shouldn’t pick her. For example, if my team already has four AD champions, and the enemy has two tanks, I need a backup option. Are there any AP mages that are enjoyable to play, can hold their own in team fights, do decent damage to tanks, and aren’t too simplistic in gameplay? I ideally want to rank up as an Irelia one-trick pony, but I also don’t want to troll my team with bad picks.

The best option here is definitely Azir. He offers a solid mix of the challenge you’re looking for and the ability to team fight well.
Aurora could be a great fit! Her gameplay has different options and isn’t too straightforward. Plus, she has mobility through her W and R which gives a bit of that Irelia feel. She’s solid in team fights and has good tank damage, especially with Liandry’s. But honestly, if you have fun with Irelia, don’t be afraid to just one-trick her—even if your team composition isn’t perfect!
I really vibe with Sylas for AP! He’s snowbally with a lot of sustain, although he might not be the best against tanks. For something that can shred tanks, you might consider Brand or Cassiopeia, or even a crit builder like Tristana or Yone.
I mean, the only worry with a full AD team is a heavy tank with armor, but Irelia has AP scaling on her autos and can build items like Wit’s End. I usually see her deal with tanks mid/late game, so I wouldn’t stress too much about it.
Not sure what you’re seeing, but Irelia definitely can’t just melt tanks! That sounds like a stretch, lol.
If you’re thinking of something just as wild, consider Yone mid! He’s super strong. But if you’re looking for AP, Sylas is also a great pick if you can get an early lead.
I’ve heard Irelia mains recommend Akali as a solid secondary. She’s an excellent choice for those who love Irelia’s mechanics.
Yeah, but Bork does %current HP damage which isn’t great against armor. And Irelia can struggle against tanks building up a lot of armor. You might want to use those tanks as a way to get to the backline instead.
