I’m curious about which games, considered amazing by fans and critics alike when they came out in 2013 or earlier, are still a blast to play today. Some on my list would be GTA 4, RDR1, Super Mario Galaxy (1 & 2), Batman: Arkham series and old school classics like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Final Fantasy 1 from the NES era. What others would you add?

Most of the classic Nintendo lineup, like Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, Super Mario 64, and all the Smash Bros or Mario Party games, are always worth playing.
Planescape Torment is worth a mention for any CRPG fan interested in extraordinary storytelling. It’s a fantastic adventure even on a first playthrough in 2025.
Games like Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, and Pokemon remain timeless in their appeal. I would throw Skyrim into the mix as well; it seems like no matter how much time passes, it never gets old.
The most beloved Assassin’s Creed games released before 2013 are still worth playing. In particular, I’d highlight AC2 and Black Flag.
Don’t forget Zelda’s Twilight Princess and Wind Waker. They still hold up beautifully today, and games like Halo 3 and Halo Reach are a treat to play again, especially in the MCC.
There’s a solid list including Half-Life 2, the Mass Effect trilogy, Bungie’s Halo series, and classics like Fallout 3 or New Vegas, Skyrim, Bioshock, Gears of War, and the early Assassin’s Creed games. These all have a firm place in gaming history.
Megaman X really sticks with me along with Resident Evil 4, Super Mario World, and Metal Gear Solid. They’re classics for a reason.
You have to remember Minecraft, Skyrim, and Dishonored as well, each with a massive lasting appeal and perfect for revisiting anytime.
