I’m thinking about upgrading my PS5’s internal storage by installing an SSD. I want to buy one with as much storage as possible—Sony says the console supports up to 8TB. Can anyone recommend good SSD brands or types that fit the correct format and work well with the PS5? Any tips on specs or features I should look out for would be awesome!

If you want a quick recommendation, Western Digital SSDs are pretty popular and reliable for PS5 upgrades. Their PCIe 4.0 drives meet the speed requirements and usually come with heatsinks. I’ve heard a lot of people have good experiences with them.
Basically, you’ll need an M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSD with read speeds around 5000 MB/s or more to ensure compatibility with the PS5. PCIe 3.0 drives won’t work with the console. Also, the size should be between 256 GB and 8 TB. A heatsink is super important since the PS5’s expansion slot doesn’t have one, so either get an SSD that comes with a heatsink or be ready to add one yourself. Brands like Samsung, Western Digital, Crucial, and Kingston usually have solid options. I wouldn’t go straight for the biggest drives because they get crazy expensive—something around 2 TB often gives you the best value. 4 TB is also good if you find a deal.
I’ve been using a Corsair M.2 SSD in my PS5 for a while now and it’s been rock solid. No issues at all, and the speeds are right where they need to be. Make sure whatever you pick is PCIe 4.0 and has a heatsink or add one yourself to keep things cool.
Thanks, that heatsink info helps a lot! I definitely don’t want anything overheating inside my console.
