I recently dropped my Steam Deck from about a foot onto a hardwood floor, and now the left trigger doesn’t feel as smooth. Initially, everything seemed fine, but after a day of letting it sit, I noticed that while the trigger goes down smoothly at first, it becomes a bit stiff near the bottom, like something’s rubbing against it. Do you think I should take it in for repairs? Is this a sign that there might be more serious damage than just a misaligned trigger? Everything else seems to be working fine, except for the trigger issue.

First, take a look at the shell of the Steam Deck. Check if there are any cracks or dents. Sometimes, it could be as simple as needing a shell or trigger replacement, and you might even be able to do that yourself!
There’s a small plastic piece inside the Steam Deck that connects to the triggers, and it’s super easy to break with a drop. I’d suggest popping off the shell to inspect it. If that piece is broken, you can remove it, and the trigger should still function without it.
It might just be that the back shell isn’t clicked in properly around the trigger area. This can cause issues with the trigger’s smoothness, so definitely check that out.
Oddly enough, my left trigger stopped working randomly too, and I had a similar experience. My Steam Deck rolled off my backpack onto the floor, and that somehow fixed the issue for me! So, it’s hard to say whether your drop will lead to a fix or worsen the problem – just tread carefully!
