I’m on the lookout for RPGs that feature expansive and meaningful skill trees. I absolutely love unlocking skills, but many games fall short with tiny or uninspiring trees. I’m after games that offer a large skill tree with multiple branching paths. I’ve enjoyed some Final Fantasy games for this, like certain ones in the series, and I thought Expedition 33 had decent trees too. I’m also interested in Fantasy Life I since it has skill trees for all classes. However, I’m specifically NOT looking for something like Pillars of Eternity, which has a huge but kind of bland passive skill tree. I want a mix of active and passive skills that really change my gameplay, rather than just boosting stats slightly.

Path of Exile 2 is currently early access and has an incredibly massive skill tree. It definitely seems meaningful rather than just filler abilities, so you might want to give that a shot!
Warhammer 40K: Rogue Trader is fantastic for its skill variety and cross-class synergy. You can buff characters in ways that lead to some huge effects—sounds right up your alley!
Check out Bravely Default, Metaphor: ReFantazio, and Dragon Quest 11. They all offer pretty engaging skill progression!
Games like Fallout 4, 7 Days to Die, and Grandia Xtreme all have systems that let you customize your character skills in interesting ways. There are so many options to create a unique playstyle with these!
Have you considered Final Fantasy Tactics? It’s an old-school favorite and if you play long enough, you can unlock the Calculator job which offers some pretty unique skills. Also, Vandal Hearts and Tactics Ogre have similar class systems. Plus, there’s a remaster of FF Tactics coming out soon, so that could be worth checking out!
Totally backing Tactics! It’s a classic for a reason, and that remaster should be awesome. Don’t forget about some other gems like Vandal Hearts!
