I’m on the hunt for an RPG or action-adventure game that puts a heavy emphasis on crafting, gear upgrades, and enchanting. I’m looking for something in first or third person perspective—definitely not top-down or isometric. Ideally, I prefer a single-player experience, but I’m okay with multiplayer as long as I can complete all content solo. The combat shouldn’t be super challenging, so no souls-like games for me. A solid story is necessary, and I’m not interested in sandbox-style games. My main goal is to find a game where crafting and upgrading gear are essential for progression since I’m tired of titles that offer decent gear from drops and quest rewards without needing to enhance my gear through crafting.

You might enjoy The Witcher 3, but keep in mind you don’t craft your way through the game entirely. Still, there’s a good amount of crafting for your gear, plus it has a great story.
Check out Nightengale! It’s got a pretty cool crafting system, and there’s even a demo on Steam if you want to try it out. Seems like it hits a lot of your requirements!
I heard they messed up things a bit there, like making it another boss farm simulator similar to Monster Hunter. It could make other progression methods feel irrelevant.
If you haven’t tried it yet, Horizon Forbidden West requires lots of upgrades for weapons and outfits, especially on higher difficulty settings. You’ll need to gather parts from machines for upgrades. If you haven’t played Horizon Zero Dawn first, I highly recommend it for the amazing story and character development!
I played Zero Dawn, but I’m currently in one of the 130 countries where Sony has blocked access to their games, so I’m hesitant to buy anything from them right now.
What about Skyrim? It’s an all-time classic for crafting and upgrades!
I’ve already played it, but thanks for the suggestion!
The Atelier Ryza series could be your jam! The crafting is essential, and I hit a wall at some bosses because I hadn’t upgraded my gear enough.
Never heard of it before! Just added it to my wishlist; hopefully, it goes on sale during the summer!
Played it and loved it, but it’s not really what I’m looking for at the moment.
