I’m on the hunt for online games that aren’t shooters or MMORPGs. I’m looking for something to play regularly, ideally with a competitive or community angle, and I’d prefer a game that has an active player base. Personally, I’m not a fan of shooters (they just aren’t my thing), and I already dive deep into an MMORPG (GW2), so I’m not looking to juggle another one of those. I’ve also tried League of Legends and it just didn’t click for me. What I really want is a game I can casually play while listening to video essays, but still allows for social interaction, like chatting with others or maybe joining a Discord. The community vibes in popular FPS games seem alluring, but since shooters aren’t my jam, I feel like I’m missing out! I’m also not interested in anything set in space or that has a heavy sci-fi theme. Any suggestions?

Have you thought about exploring RTS games? They aren’t shooters or MMOs, and they can give you that competitive feel. It might be challenging, but you can find matches with other newbies. Alternatively, consider building games like Minecraft or Terraria. They allow you to hang out with friends and create cool stuff! Street Fighter is another option; it’s not an MMO but has a vibrant community and is a lot of fun!
What about checking out ARPGs? Games like Diablo, Path of Exile, or Last Epoch could fit the bill. They’re action-packed and have online multiplayer components. Another fantastic option could be Monster Hunter Rise. It’s not an MMORPG, plus it has a friendly community and is light on PC resources. You’ll have a blast teaming up with friends!
