I’ve been diving into MSU-1 games lately and tried a few like Earthbound MaternalBound Redux, F-Zero Jazz Jack, and Super Metroid. I know Chrono Trigger and Zelda ALTTP have versions too, but I’m unsure which ones are worth checking out from the vast selection available. Can anyone suggest the best MSU-1 games across any console, and if you know the creator of the patch that’d be super helpful!

The Mega Man X series with the MET (Krzysztof Slowikowski) versions are absolute must-plays. There’s also the Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (Deluxe) and Chrono Trigger with JUD6MENT’s Orchestral mods. Those really enhance the experience. Super Metroid and F-Zero also have great MSU-1 versions.
I’ve worked on over a hundred MSU1 audio packs, so I’m a bit partial, but some highlights include Castlevania – Dracula X with the PC Engine CD soundtrack and Mortal Kombat series with arcade soundtracks. Street Fighter Alpha 2 is also impressive with its gameplay improvements and music options. Just avoid those pre-curated Archive collections because they often mess up credits and updates. Always grab the patches from Zeldix directly for the best experience. Also, consider MD+ for Mega Drive/Genesis games, which is quite similar to MSU1.
Try Uncharted Waters: New Horizons with the patch by Cubear. That game already had an incredible soundtrack, and the MSU1 mod takes it to a whole new level. It’s one of my go-tos for sure.
Games with arcade soundtracks like Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, and TMNT Turtles in Time really shine with MSU-1 enhancements. And let’s not forget the Star Wars games—they totally deserve an honorable mention. I wish Killer Instinct had operational FMVs on a console version though; it’d definitely top my list then!
Rock n’ Roll Racing is awesome on an SD2SNES cart! Hearing that authentic music in-game from a Super NES feels downright surreal.
