Hey everyone! I recently discovered that my MSI GE75 Raider laptop can’t utilize the 2070RTX Super GPU on the main screen, which only gives me 120 FPS in Valorant. However, when using a secondary monitor through HDMI, I get around 220 FPS. I’ve realized that this is happening because my laptop lacks a MUX switch, meaning the internal display only runs off the integrated GPU, while the HDMI connection goes directly to the dedicated GPU. Therefore, I’m looking to upgrade my aging 1080p, 60Hz monitor to make full use of my laptop’s capabilities. What kind of monitors can I connect to my laptop? It has HDMI 2.0, but I’m unsure about the Mini DisplayPort version – I’m guessing it’s 1.4. I was considering a QHD monitor around 180Hz or a high-frequency FHD monitor. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I’m not an expert on the exact specs for your laptop, but even without a MUX switch, it’s possible to use the dedicated GPU. The integrated GPU may add a slight overhead, but it should still perform decent enough. Just remember that the **main monitor** isn’t getting the best performance due to how the signals are routed.
That’s a good point! I’ve noticed in my experience that while the dGPU is technically doing the work, the integrated GPU complicates things, resulting in a noticeable FPS drop on the main display compared to an external monitor. Going direct to the GPU via HDMI or Mini DP usually helps.
