I’m curious about what elements make games stand out the most to you. For me, gameplay is king—I’d say it makes up about 60% of why I consider a game good. If the gameplay is solid, I’m already halfway sold. After that, around 20% comes from the game’s design and world-building (like isometric perspectives and clever level layouts). The last 20% is about story, characters, and dialogue. When all three line up, the game feels perfect. For example, Zelda games often have similar stories (except for Majora’s Mask and Twilight Princess which are a bit unique), but their gameplay and world design are phenomenal. Also, God of War nailed the story, but if their gameplay wasn’t fun, I wouldn’t have completed all the installments I’ve played. I also love Souls games (DS3, Bloodborne, Sekiro)—I don’t usually follow the story closely but just battling bosses and exploring is a blast, with Sekiro being my favorite.

For me, it’s all about how the game feels when you’re playing it—movement, shooting, camera controls, jumping, all that stuff. That’s why I’ve stuck with games like Destiny for years; the feel is just right and keeps me coming back.
Totally agree that gameplay is the foundation. If the game doesn’t play well, other aspects like story or art don’t really matter much to me. Like you said with Souls games, the challenge and flow keep you hooked even if the story is cryptic or you don’t dive deep into lore right away.
Honestly, it depends on the game type. For FPS or sandbox games like Call of Duty or Minecraft, gameplay and world design have to be strong. But for story-driven titles like God of War or Final Fantasy VII Remake, I look for a mix of story, character growth, gameplay, and immersive world design. It’s rare for me to play a game with poor gameplay regardless of genre, though.
Here’s my breakdown: first off, gameplay reigns supreme, especially since I enjoy rogue-likes that combine short play sessions with deep replayability. Next up is music and sound design—games like Doom 2016 and Hades demonstrate how great audio can really elevate the experience. Art style and themes are important to me too; Sekiro and Deep Rock Galactic nail that. Graphics are last on my list but if everything else is awesome and the visuals look stunning, even better. Some all-around favorites for me include Baldur’s Gate 3, Gris, and It Takes Two for fresh, fun gameplay.
I value how long a game can keep me entertained. Open world games with tons of content and hours to sink in are my jam. If the game lasts long and doesn’t get boring quickly, I’m usually happy.
