Hey everyone! I started playing Final Fantasy XIV a couple of weeks ago and while I’ve explored some of the map and finished a few story quests, I’m feeling a bit bored. This is my first MMORPG, and I’m curious about what keeps others engaged in the game. I love wandering around the world, diving into dungeons, and just soaking in the community vibe. But I have to admit, the story quests don’t really grab me – I often just skip the dialogue because I find it boring. Plus, when we enter dungeons, everyone seems to zoom through them so fast that I can’t even enjoy exploring. What keeps you hooked on FFXIV?

Yeah, dungeons get pretty linear later on for sure. But that Explorer Mode can actually help you see those areas at your own pace. I think it’s a great addition for people like you who want to take it slow and really enjoy the environments!
I feel you about dungeon runs! Many dungeons later in the game are designed in a way that doesn’t really encourage exploration, so it can be frustrating. They do have this Explorer Mode, which lets you take your time and check out the dungeons more thoroughly. Check it out if you’re feeling rushed in group runs!
Welcome to the game! A lot of players will say that A Realm Reborn (ARR) isn’t the best part of FFXIV. It can actually feel like a grind, with many quests that are just about killing mobs or fetching items, which can turn off newcomers. I totally get where you’re coming from; I dropped the game because I felt like 40 hours was too much before it got exciting. Many feel that ARR is overhyped and should be streamlined for new players to enjoy faster.
Thanks for backing me up! I thought maybe I was just being picky. I actually really enjoy the landscapes and map design, but something about the quests just feels off. I wish I could experience this game with a group; that might change the grind.
You’re definitely not alone in feeling this way! Many players find FFXIV to be more enjoyable once they get through the expansions since the story and characters develop a lot. While the gameplay might not be the best in the series, there are moments that really shine, especially in the later expansions. The earlier content can feel tedious, but if you stick around, you might find some pieces that resonate with you. Just remember, MMOs can be slow burns.
I hear you! Shadowbringers is where a lot of players say the real magic happens in terms of narrative. The characters get deeper, and the plotting really captivates some fans. Stick with it; you might end up loving the journey.
Completely agree! The community aspect can really build your enjoyment too. Try to team up with others! I found that going in with friends helped make even the grinding feel more fun.
It’s interesting you say that. I’ve seen tons of people waiting until after ARR to really engage with the game. It feels like only die-hard fans continue on. I made it through Heavensward, and it honestly felt a lot like ARR but with some different wrapping.
