What Laptop Should I Use While Gaming on the Couch After a Long Day?

-

After a long 10-hour shift at my desk job, I’m seeking some couch or bed comfort while gaming. I’ve traditionally been a console player, but since my girlfriend took over the TV, I can’t play as much as I’d like. I’m looking to catch up on my massive backlog of mainstream titles. Ideally, I want something that’s in the 14 to 15-inch range so it’s not too bulky. I’ve even considered dragging my old PC out of the closet for gaming on my kitchen island or bedside table, but that feels a bit ridiculous. Any recommendations? Oh, and thanks for reminding me about handheld devices like the Steam Deck in my first edit!

Honestly, putting a laptop directly on your lap isn’t the best idea. If it has air intakes on the bottom, overheating can be an issue too. You might want to look into getting a laptop table so you can sit comfortably. Sitting at an actual table can be way more comfortable long-term!

So the Legion model? That’s interesting!

If you’re planning to chill out while you play, a handheld device is the way to go! The Steam Deck or something similar would be perfect for lying down and still enjoying your games.

True! I totally forgot those options exist.

For casual playing on the couch, I’d recommend the GPD Win Max 2. It’s more like a handheld, but it still has decent specs for gaming. Just something to consider if size and portability are priorities for you.

Why not just get another TV for the living room? Otherwise, a laptop on a couch or bed requires a decent stand to avoid discomfort. If you wish to play more seriously, consider an ITX setup; they’re usually more cost-effective and have better performance than laptops.

I use my Legion 7i ’22, but I always put it on a table. Keeping it on your lap can lead to overheating, so it’s best to avoid that if you can.

I wouldn’t recommend placing the laptop directly on your stomach. Instead, I use a leather lap desk that has a phone holder. Currently, I’ve got the Legion 7 with a 3080/Ryzen 7, which works great for me. Just keep it on a flat surface whenever possible!

Totally agree! The Steam Deck is also a game-changer if you’re looking for something more portable.

Skip the laptop unless it’s a quality one like the Steam Deck. It’s everything you’d need for couch gaming and you’d really love it based on your situation.

Look a little more towards your favorite game titles and their specs first. You’d be surprised how well handhelds perform these days, and cloud gaming can be an alternative too!
