Imagine a scenario where an Imperial refugee ship, after emerging from the Warp, lands near a thriving Tau world. Among the desperate passengers are psykers, specifically those who are not excessively powerful and are relatively stable. Given the Tau’s reputation and methods, what kind of life can these psykers expect to have there?

There’s an example in one of the Farsight novels where a gue’vesa psyker is highly regarded among the Tau. They know about her abilities, which suggests that if they recognize the potential in some, they might treat them differently than others, even if there’s a risk involved.
I’ve been reading that the Tau tend to allow their vassals a degree of self-governance. The issue is, what happens to the psykers among these refugees? Maybe they would use them for experiments to ensure they don’t risk a demonic invasion. The Tau might not let unstable psykers roam free, so they’d likely keep them contained until they can be assessed for their impact on society.
Psykers are generally seen as a big problem everywhere. The Imperium has a handle on them since they know how useful they can be, but no one wants rogue psykers running around. The Tau may not be as brutal about it, but they still have a very strict utilitarian approach. If you’re not helpful for the greater good, they won’t hesitate to eliminate you, and uncontrolled psykers definitely won’t help their cause.
It’s hard to say for sure since GW hasn’t really detailed how the Tau deal with psykers yet. We know they take in lots of different groups, but the fate of psykers and mutants remains a mystery. It’s frustrating not to have clarity on this!
Yeah, and since psykers aren’t even on the table in gameplay, we can only speculate. They haven’t released any auxiliary types aside from Kroot or Vespid to consider.
If there’s no recycling or practical use, I’ll be surprised. Can’t imagine them just letting any random psyker hang around without a plan.
This could turn into an interesting plot point later on. As more psykers emerge amid the Great Rift, the Tau will have to reckon with the fact that psychic abilities extend beyond just tech. I can see a narrative unfolding where Gue’vesa psykers learn to control their powers through rituals involving the Tau’Va goddess. It could lead to some exciting stories about faith and psychology battling demonic threats!
It seems like the Tau don’t fully grasp the danger of the Warp or chaos. Those who understand the potential risks would likely see unbound psykers as a threat and would shoot first, ask questions later. They have specific entities they kill on sight, and I’d bet psykers would fall into that category due to their unpredictable nature.
Honestly, if they just toss you into the general population, I wouldn’t have high hopes. The Tau do have some psychic races in their ranks, but they mostly keep them apart, so those who need help won’t really have access to it.
Hey, that’s a pretty harsh judgment! If you can’t handle a bit of chaos, maybe that’s more of a personal issue!
